Leaders Who Coach™ Module 4

Leaders Who Coach™ have responsibilities to their team and their organisation. For the greatest success, you need to grow the individuals in your team in order that, collectively, they increase what they can achieve together and then sustain that growth.

Leaders Who Coach™ do this by building their own understanding of what each member can do, growing the self-awareness of their direct reports, and then following through consistently by designing actions, setting goals, contracting for accountability, and knowing how to course-correct in realtime.

Capability & Capacity of Teams is the 4th and final competency of Leaders Who Coach™.

Course Outcomes

  • Set-up your one-to-one growth meetings with direct reports using the Leaders Who Coach™ model
  • Learn how to use the Growth Roadmap as a framework to think strategically about professional growth
  • Understand the place and purpose in growth conversations of actions and tasks, experimentation, timelines, effort and priorities, and risks and consequences
  • Understand why increasing your direct report’s self-awareness unlocks new choices and approaches to their growth
  • Strengthen your use of questions and phrases that amplify conversation outcomes
  • Learn the amplifying benefit of the POwER Paradigm: Prepare, Observe, Experiment, Refine
  • How to apply the POwER Paradigm to your one-to-one growth conversations
  • Learn the importance of full exploration of options and consequences before designing solutions
  • Identify the optimal moments when your direct report is most ready to design their own solutions
  • How to support your direct report in checking on the robustness of their planned actions
  • Check on your direct report’s emotional commitment and motivation to avoid nasty surprises
  • Learn to notice the positive signs of task and goal ownership
  • Respond and work through resistance and objections confidently when you need to delegate
  • Learn how to avoid micromanaging and instead how to check-in on your direct report in between meetings in a motivating way
  • Understand the importance and quality of note-taking for contracting and accountability
  • Learn when and how to give advice without dampening ownership or commitment to tasks
  • Determine your own acceptable levels of risk and performance
  • Learn to acknowledge and celebrate successes in ways that motivate your people
  • How to approach conversations where your direct report is demotivated and underperforming due to declining mental health, burnout, discrimination, personal life events, etc.
  • How to approach tough conversations during periods of organisational change and restructure
  • Understanding how monthly growth conversations form a bigger strategic approach to productivity and talent retention

In this final module, Capability & Capacity of Teams, you learn to view the growth of your people through new lenses that encourage their independent thought and action as well as ownership and accountability. In return, you will be rewarded with peace of mind, and more time to think, contribute and influence strategically.

There are five assignments for this course:

  1. Defining Your Leaders Who Coach™ Personal Impact
  2. One-to-One Coaching Conversation Practice
  3. Designing Your Own Growth Roadmap
  4. Establishing Monthly Growth Meetings with Your Direct Reports
  5. Your Leaders Who Coach™ Time Capsule

These assignments give you first-hand experience of the growth journey you will take each member of your team on.

The Cohort Course includes live Enrichment Calls every week for the duration of the course. Enrichment Calls are led by your tutor who is an experienced and professionally trained Executive Coach, and who is trained to lead Leaders Who Coach™ Enrichment Calls.

Offering synchronous (live) learning hours, Enrichment Calls offer invaluable group study time including deep dive skill discussions, assignment review and feedback, case study discussion, practice conversations and role-playing, troubleshooting, and peer exploration of real situations that leaders on the course are facing, including conflict, under performance and people dilemmas.

Enrichment Calls deepen your understanding and fast-track your growth. They also provide a safe peer network where delegates continue to support one another beyond the course itself.

Enrichment Calls for Capability & Capacity of Teams are on Thursdays at 1pm GMT for 90 minutes.

You must attend a minimum of 4 out of 5 Enrichment Calls as a pre-requisite to receiving your Course Completion Certificate.

In order to receive your Course Completion Certificate displaying your CPD Hours, you need to:

  1. Achieve an 80% or above pass rate on all quizzes
  2. Have all your assignments approved
  3. Watch a minimum of 90% of each video
  4. Cohort Course & Certificate only — attend the minimum number of live Enrichment Calls stipulated. Check each course for minimum attendance details.

You will need to fully complete this module and receive your Course Completion Certificate in order to graduate from Leaders Who Coach™.

The Self-Paced Course earns you 12 CPD Hours; the Cohort Course earns you 19.5 CPD Hours.
